Can Too Much Caffeine Be Dangerous?

The richest sources of caffeine are tea, coffee, cola drinks, some over-the-counter medications, chocolate, and cocoa. Caffeine has been deemed a safe drug and when in small amounts, can be very healthy for your body. It gives you energy, sharpens your mind and reduces stress and anxiety. Too much of it however can be dangerous. By dangerous we do not mean that it can prove to be lethal, rather too much caffeine may result in some unpleasant side effects.

Caffeine addiction affects an individual’s productivity or performance at work. Such individuals require multiple dosages of caffeine to keep them alert and awake which is not healthy. Furthermore, too much caffeine can cause hyper activeness, dizziness, stomach pains and sometimes even hallucinations.

As tea and coffee are the most popular beverages amongst adults, its intake is very high all over the world. With regular intake, people become addicts of caffeine and this addiction can range from mild to severe. The best way to find out whether or not you’re a caffeine addict is to go to work without a morning cup of coffee or tea. Without his regular cup of coffee or tea, a caffeine addict may suffer from shaking, nervousness, headaches, and irritability. These are more commonly known as withdrawal symptoms.

This addiction however is curable if the intake is reduced gradually. It should not be taken on an empty stomach. Therefore always have a healthy breakfast with your morning cup of coffee or tea. Do not take more than 300mg of coffee or tea per day. It is advisable therefore to go for alternate beverages like herbal tea that do not contain caffeine. Increase the intake of water and exercise regularly to be truly healthy. Breaking the addiction maybe hard, but is not impossible.
