Worst Supermarket Foods – Silent Killers Lurking in Your Favorite Aisle

If you are looking for whole, organic, real food then shopping at your local supermarket becomes an enormous challenge. The bulk of food available in supermarkets is processed, refined junk oftentimes masquerading as real food or natural food. Don’t be fooled. Here are some things to be on the lookout for as you grocery shop. These are four of the worst supermarket foods you’ll find.

  1. Fruit juices and sodas filled with high fructose corn syrup and a host of artificial colorings and flavors oftentimes claiming to be “all natural.” High fructose corn syrup is a dangerous toxin that inhibits the function of white blood cells in the body and is associated with a host of chronic health problems including obesity and diabetes. It compromises the function of vital organs in the body such as the liver, heart, and pancreas. The fructose found in high fructose corn syrup is especially deadly because of the rapid rate at which it converts into fat. Typically, excess sugar is stored by the liver and later converted into fat if it is not used up. However, with high fructose corn syrup the conversion to fat is immediate. Fruit juices and sodas are, without question, some of the worst supermarket foods you will find and should definitely be avoided if you are trying to lose weight.
  2. Breakfast Cereals. Processed breakfast cereals are loaded with high fructose corn syrup and can be very dangerous for your health as well as your children’s health. The extrusion process by which these cereals are made into various little shapes and flakes, robs them of important nutrients and causes the very fragile and unstable oils found in grains to go rancid. Once this happens free-radicals are released. These free-radicals can wreak havoc in the body and set the stage for all kinds of chronic illnesses and diseases. Try real slow-cooked cereal such as oatmeal with some real butter. This will give you loads of slow-releasing nutrients that will keep you fueled for hours.
  3. Crackers, cookies, pastries, etc. These are almost always loaded with high fructose corn syrup and all kinds of refined sugars. Go for healthier alternatives instead like organic food bars made from real food ingredients.
  4. Imitation butters and margarines claiming to be just as good as or even better than butter are also some of the worst supermarket foods. Contrary to what you may have learned butter is actually good for you and definitely better than margarine or other fake versions. Margarine contains deadly trans fats and imitation butters do not have the essential fatty acids found in butter. Use organic butter or even better- butter from grass-fed cows. Adding butter to whole grains and vegetables increases the absorption of vital nutrients.
